Bringing a Little Magic to Queen’s Wood This Christmas

Bringing a Little Magic to Queen’s Wood This Christmas

Today is Giving Tuesday (2nd December) and to mark it I wanted to create something a little bit magical in Queen’s Wood; something small, simple, and uplifting. I’ve been hanging framed mini-prints along one of the woodland paths, and if you spot one that speaks to you, you’re completely welcome to take it home. It’s my way of spreading a bit of joy to anyone who might need it this season.

The idea came from a tiny but powerful moment.

One day, when I wasn’t feeling great, I came across a brightly coloured stone in the woods with the words pick me up attached to it. It was such a simple gesture, but it genuinely brightened my day. I still treasure that little stone at home and that act of kindness inspired this whole project. It reminded me how even the smallest surprises can bring a little magic when we need it most.

Queen’s Wood means a lot to me. My children go to forest school there, and it’s always been a place where I feel restored and grounded.

There’s something healing about walking beneath those trees, breathing in the quiet, and feeling held by nature. It felt like the perfect place to give a little kindness back this Giving Tuesday, especially since so many of my prints centre around birds and the peace they bring me.

My hope is that the installation offers a moment of warmth or comfort to anyone who passes by. Some prints are bright and uplifting, and others are more personal, for those who might be navigating a harder time of year. If one makes you smile, makes you pause, or makes you feel seen, please take it. That’s exactly why it’s there.

I’ll be placing the prints throughout Queen’s Wood on Tuesday 2 December, to mark both Giving Tuesday and the beginning of Grief Awareness Week, two moments that feel closely connected to the themes of kindness, reflection, and hope that inspire my work.

This time of year can be beautiful, but it can also be tough. I just wanted to bring a little bit of magic into the woods; something small that might brighten someone’s day, add colour to a Christmas tree, or offer a moment of hope.

The installation will stay in place until 3pm on Tuesday 2 December, or until all the mini-prints have found new homes. If you find one that feels meant for you, I hope it brings a spark of joy.

Thank you to the friends of Queen's Wood for giving me permission to hang these prints in the wood and I hope spark a little joy this festive season.
